The Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine (WCMTM) at the University of Gothenburg is part of a national effort within translational research. The centre has been established in collaboration with Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, Region Västra Götaland and Astra Zeneca. WCMTM in Gothenburg is focusing on molecular aspects of metabolic and degenerative diseases, neuroscience, inflammation, cancer and life science chemistry in a coordinated program to strengthen translational research by recruitment of young scientists.

In the present call we search for candidates who has both a PhD and a license to practise medicine, and have ongoing research in any of our focus areas. The successful candidate(s) will be given the opportunity to combine 50% research time with clinical traning or employment as resident/consultant physician for four years together with a generous support package including funding for two full-time positions (eg one post-doc and one PhD student) for 4 years, as well as support for expenditures.

As a clinical researcher within the community of WCMTM you will have a great potential to develop as a leading independent scientist in a strong academic environment at the University of Gothenburg, the Sahlgrenska University Hospital, and AstraZeneca Gothenburg. Together with the other Wallenberg Centres for Molecular Medicine in Lund, Linköping and Umeå, and with SciLifeLab in Solna/Uppsala, WCMTM Gothenburg has established the National Molecular Medicine Fellows Program (NMMP). The NMMP provides yearly meetings, and good network and collaboration opportunities for the close to 100 new group leaders recruited to the five nodes.

Please visit our website www.wcmtm.gu.se for more information about the research and group leaders at WCMTM and www.nmmp.se for information about the National Molecular Medicine Fellows Program.

You are expected to take active part in our local WCMTM meetings and research collaborations, and be active in the exchange programs across the network of the four Wallenberg Centres and SciLifeLab. You are also expected to apply for external funding.

Your qualifications

We are seeking physicians with a PhD and with good research merits in any of our focus areas. Priority will be given to candidates with a PhD degree completed no more than seven years prior to the deadline of the application.
